DEPARTURE:  The course will begin at a local hotel for Friday night classes, running approximately 6 P.M. until Midnight.   Travel, lodging, and meals are all student responsibilities.  The course will then depart the hotel between 6-7 A.M. on Saturday and travel to the local field training site.  This transport will be provided by the instructors. (Private transport may be an option, parking-dependent).

OVERVIEW:  From there, students will endure a small taste of true survival hardship. This will be like a sample of the Special Forces Survival School.  Expect this to be the one time in your life when you suffer so you don't have to do it again!   You will be sleep deprived from a late night Friday and an early start Saturday.

FRIDAY evening:  Classes only, classroom environment/ conference room, usually with Power Point presentation.

You may take notes.   You will need to sign a WAIVER or there can be no training!   (WAIVERS will be sent to Survivor, upon making reservation.) You may bring your own survival book—any type you prefer—or use Hawke's Green Beret Survival Guide, to be purchased beforehand by the Survivor and can be signed by the Author during class if brought to class by Survivor.   You can use only a knife for this course.   You may bring your own of any type, but only ONE knife per student!   Or you may use  the  recommended Hawke's Hellion Survival Knives which may be purchased before attending the course through TOPS knives.  One Hellion Beserker & Hellion Elite (Lighter weight) blade will be on display.

SATURDAY:  Saturday night is spent in the field; there is no returning until the end of the course on Sunday.  (Exceptions for those who have medical conditions, become unwell, or prefer to cease training; NO refunds for quitting).  You will be hungry as we do not provide dinner or breakfast. You may eat—your choice—before or after training, but we ask you to refrain for an enhanced experience.

You will make your own SHELTER and sleep in it; we will provide a training area that allows for this option, or we will provide a poncho, poncho liner, and hammock.  You may bring your own items, buy ours at a marked-up price, or bring your own shelter.  We encourage you to try to do this course with nothing but the clothes on your back and a knife!  You will start a FIRE on your own, or sleep cold for one night!   This fire will be started by sticks or, at best, an alternative method.  NO LIGHTERS OR MATCHES!  You will find your own FOOD by foraging, trapping, hunting, or scavenging as applicable.  You will be hungry—we may find plants or bugs as the only food.  You will get your own WATER from the ground or water source.  You will make this safe by boiling.  If you cannot make a fire, (you will) then water treatment tablets will be provided.  You can be provided a CANTEEN, CANTEEN CUP,  if requested; or, if no primitive method for holding water can be improvised, these will be provided for hydration and safety.

SUNDAY: You will get a basic PRIMITIVE FIRST AID class, a SURVIVAL NAVIGATION class, and a "LIVE FOOD PREPARATION" class.

No one is required to participate or eat if they do not want to, but no other food is provided, other than what is found by the student.

WRAP-UP:  Transport back to the hotel at approximately 5 P.M. There will be a small graduation ceremony with a diploma and options for feedback forms.  Also, options to have showers then get dinner afterwards for those who wish to remain.

CLASS SIZE:  Maximum number of students is 10.  This is for quality control to ensure a good instructor-to-student ratio.  If you have a minimum group of 5 students or can provide this amount, then a basic course can be arranged for your group.  This may be possible nearer to you if you can provide an adequate location. Private groups and individual courses can be arranged.

You must pre-pay to hold your reservation.

Think survival is just whimsical reality show fodder?  Consider the motorists who were caught in a freak snowstorm that shut down a mountain highway in California for more than a day, or the skiers trapped by an avalanche for several days in the San Gabriel mountains, or the pair of anglers who lost their bearings in the woods along the Chattooga River...if you were driving along a remote desert highway and your car died, would you have the supplies on hand and the knowledge to survive if no one came along for hours, or perhaps a day or more?  If, while assessing your surroundings, you were bitten by a snake, would you know what to do?

SPECOPS Survival classes are broken into 3- to 4-hour blocks of instruction to be provided in classrooms, 8-hour (1-day) courses, and 15-hour (2-day courses) to be provided over weekends at locations within a 90-minute drive of a major city. During the weekend programs, students will have the option of camping, staying in nearby lodging facilities, or returning home and showing up for class on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The classes—which include jungle, sea and shore, desert, mountain-woodland, arctic, and swamp—have typically been designed for anyone who participates in potentially dangerous activities such as mountain biking, trekking, climbing, or wilderness photography; for those who participate in activities or training in remote locations; and for anyone simply looking for a fun educational weekend adventure near their home town...but more so, they teach skills that every individual should know and are suitable for those with little or no outdoor skills or survival experience starting from the age of twelve.

Class Description: Wilderness Survival

Preparing for remote location activities and training programs, packing survival kits, the psychology of survival, food procurement and preparation, water procurement and purification, shelter and fire building and signaling techniques.  This course teaches students to not only prepare for remote location adventures, but how to survive in the event of an emergency.  An introduction to modern-day gear and supplies will also be included.

Custom programs can be designed for private groups.  We can also send our instructors and curriculums anywhere in the United States as an MTT (Mobile Training Team) for private groups.

SPECOPS staff is also available to instruct private groups and for lectures.  Programs for private groups will be specifically tailored to their desires to include location, duration and course content.
